I just got to this episode today and I’m so glad I did! So many great insights. I have been a lurker to the readalong, as I read the book a while back, but now I feel inspired to go check out at least this last part— so interesting. And I’m in for Habits of the Heart!

Wanted to say how much I appreciate deep dives like these. Love a slow read of a classic and this one really hits the spot as far as relevance right now. I was familiar with Democracy in America but had never read it. This was a perfect incentive to spend more time with these ideas. Feels really important to have these bigger discussions about our democracy right now. ❤️

General overview -- you ladies are doing too much! You are spreading yourselves thin, Sarah and Beth, to the point where it's getting increasingly difficult for me, as a subscriber only to your Pantsuit Politics podcast (and Substack) and not to your other productions, to get the smart, on-point and current commentary that you used to provide to your P.P. listeners. These days those commentaries happen much less often on the Pantsuit Politics podcasts. If this continues, I'll probably unsubscribe to everything. That said, I hope things are going well for you, and wish you a great 2025.

We always appreciate the feedback, of course. We have always and will always strive to have whole hearted conversations about things that matter to us, our community, and our country both in our few and paid podcast feeds.

We know that we aren’t going to hit every single person where they are at with every single episode, and I’m sorry we’ve missed you lately. But, our promise to ourselves and our audience is to be thoughtful and intentional in the way we approach news, politics, and culture. We know you have a lot of options for how you engage in political conversations and where you spend your time.

So, if we aren’t working for you right now, I really hope you find what does work for you. Because the work of democracy and civic engagement matters and requires all of us.

As honored as I am to receive a response from you, Maggie, I must respond with my perception that it amounts to a non-response to the concern I’ve raised, which was that the Pantsuit Politics podcast has much less of important political and cultural thoughts from Beth and Sarah, because they’re spreading themselves across too many outlets. It’s a blowoff, combined with an invitation to go elsewhere for thoughtful podcasts (you literally acknowledged that you know I could do so). If that had been my preference I wouldn’t have taken the time to write. Now, though, I’ll start to take your implied suggestion, with regret for what Pantsuit Politics USED to be.

Hi again! I didn’t mean to suggest you see your way out the door (that would be a very short sighted community engagement strategy), just that your initial message said you were considering unsubscribing if you didn’t see a change.

We were in the middle of a planned break, so…I do think that we had acknowledged as a team that we were stretched thin and are addressing it by not having new recorded content for two weeks and we significantly adjusted our premium schedule in the month of December.

So…I did feel we were already moving in the direction you suggested, but people change. And I do feel pretty protective of Sarah and Beth authentically offering their commentary based on what they’ve learned from years of conversation with each other and this community. It’s hard when things and relationships change. But if that’s not enough for you, I get it. We all change and grow and it’s important to be in a place that feels like it fits right.

I was listening to the part about equity vs equality and thinking that we have to bring race into this conversation and the fear people have about a changing demographic. I listened to a Code Switch episode about trad wives recently and the part I can’t get out of my head was a clip they played of a woman bragging about how many white babies she had brought into the world. The level of open, blatant racism that seems to still be acceptable in today’s society felt a little shocking to me.
