I'll second those comments above that I'm already paying for Patreon, so I sincerely hope that you don't do anything behind the pay wall. I don't want to be charged more for your content than I am for the NYT and WaPo together.

The newsletter will always have a free option. We frequently get feedback from listeners that they feel pressure to keep up with the "homework" on Patreon. As a small business with a small team, we rely on our readers and listeners for financial support and want to give people options that work for them.

Substack is my new landing place for rational and thoughtful creativity. Finally. Welcome Sarah and Beth.

I know, you are just trying to teach your "older spice cabinet" new things. Will glady accept the challenge! Unsure why I made a handle, but then it used my whole name. Perplexing...

Patreon, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Substack…please don’t go to the moon. I’ll apparently follow you anywhere and what if we encounter a bear?

If we meet a bear, we'll just invite it to listen to the podcast. I'm sure it will be our new friend. (But also, big fan of planet Earth here. I don't want to go anywhere else)

Present! Weirdly, in the last month or two Substack has become a place where I am following and reading more people.

Substack has its problems, (I’m only saying that based on comments by others that I follow) but I think it’s a pretty good experience overall.

This is awesome. So much support. I gave up social media a year ago. I love new places not on social media to connect. When you put your mind to it, there are so many ways 😄 I think it is Step 1 in building a better world 🌎 ♥️. I miss the 90s ☎️

Excited to learn more about Substack too as a recovering communications professional/journalist. ✍️

My favorite meme that describes me perfectly: "I'm Gen X, which means I adapt to new technology like a Millennial but I get mad at it like a Boomer." The things we (happily) do for Beth & Sarah! 🤣

I will follow you both where you go. However, as a longtime monthly supporter on Patreon, I don't want to do a 2nd fee for Substack. My limited experience with Substack is they will keep asking me to subscribe and I'll have to click through and then click through that I don't want their three other recommendations to follow. I didn't really use Patreon for comments often because I didn't feel it was a really user-friendly app and I want things in my inbox to read so I don't have to go multiple places. Sigh, why does tech always has to get convoluted. Hopefully, this will notify me in my email and easy to go directly to Substack. But I will read it and it will be great as always. Thanks for trying to always make things better for both you and us.

Keep us posted on how your experience is with this. We expect to need to fiddle with it as we go. Launch Day is a little different for us because we would love to meet some new friends, but starting next week you should get a more normal email to your inbox and a link straight to the note. The newsletter will always come to your inbox for free.

That’s how it works for the other Substacks I subscribe to.

I think this was a really good move! Unfortunately, Substack thinks I'm a "free subscriber," and I can't figure out how to address that!

Love Substack, love y’all, very into this. And HUGE shoutout for all the work that must have gone into moving so many previous newsletters here - wow!!

Few questions: came here through your link, but they offered several other folks to follow, but not you. When I searched for you and tried to favor you, it said that subscriptions cannot be managed in the app. When I return to the site, there was no way to follow you without a paid subscription, which I already have on Patreon. Each time I sign in they send me out for a verification email. So questions: Do I unsubscribe on Patreon? Am I doing something wrong with the sign in but I keep getting a verification step? And how do I get you to be one of those orange tabs on my landing page?

Our premium content will continue to live on Patreon. We've just moved the weekly newsletter here, and from everything I can tell you are subscribed. We only send out notes on Friday, so you won't get anything new in your inbox from us until next week.
